Tubs & Tiles Victorian Bathroom 1

A bathroom renovation which Tubs & Tiles supplied in 2010. Modern fittings with traditional, victorian style.

My wife and I are remodeling the bathroom and we really want to do it right.?

The bathroom is a full bath but not huge. Like 6×7 but enough room for the tub and shower.
We are replacing the old vanity with a very nice antique white vanity and mirror. It’s very ornate – almost like a victorian style but we have a ranch home. We don’t want the usual “junky” cabinet and mirror from the dept store but I was just wondering if this would be too fancy for a split level ranch home? The rest of the house is decorated in country style? Just wondering what kind of advice anyone may have? Thanks.

Ideas for designing a victorian bathroom?

I have a victorian house that did not have indoor plumbing when it was built. One of the bedrooms was converted to a bathroom. It is HUGE and has a clawfoot tub and pedestal sink. There is a large area of wasted space right in the middle of the room. There is plenty of room for furnishings, cabinets for storage, vanity tables, etc. There is also a crystal chandalier in the middle of the ceiling which I am keeping! Any ideas for what type of furnishings to add to keep it authentic? Antiques to look for? Ways to make it functional? Thanks!

What wall color (with a pink counter top, and walnut cabinet) can give my bathroom a Victorian style feeling?

The wall color I have now is soft yellow, so you can see with the colors; soft yellow and baby pink; it really feels like a bathroom for a little girl who still is in middle school. I want something that is more sophisticated and really gives a Victorian or antique feeling. (I know to achieve that look I still have to do some decorations)

My bath is just average size, not very big, and get also average natural light.

Here’s all the other colors I have in my bathroom?
I used 4×4 natural stones for my counter top and wall around the tub. They are somewhere between pink and baby pink.

12X12 tile for flooring. Don’t know what happened to me really I also got tiles that are pink, but are darker than the 4×4 natural stones.

The cabinet is walnut.

Mirror has a gold frame.

Yeah that’s about it, so what do you think?
I know this thing is so long, I appreciate for your time and patience.
Please tell me what you think, THANK You so much!!!!

P.S. if you think I can still get rid of that baby girl feeling without repainting the wall, tell me AS WELL.

Modern Antique Bathroom Vanities – If It’s Modern, How Can It Be Antique?

In the realm of bathroom vanities, there exists what are commonly referred to as antique bathroom vanities. In most cases (and removing ourselves completely from the vintage swap meets and antique shops) these “antique” vanities are not necessarily antique in age, but rather antique in design. Modern antique bathroom vanities, when crafted well, possess the common lines, shapes, and accents of old-world craftsmanship. Victorian-age designs are commonly seen in antique bathroom vanities made today. Their solid wood construction and heavily carved facades bring you back to a time when woodcarving was a master craft and elegantly etched leaves, vines, and accents were what the public loved.

The Benefits of Modern Antique Bathroom Vanities

Although modern antique-fashioned vanities may not have the true age to go along with their classification, antique bathroom vanities of today bring with them heightened function and durability. Bathroom vanity design (as well as internal plumbing) has come along way since the old days of kings and queens. Today, antique vanities come complete with flawless sink and faucet integration and in many cases excel in function when compared to modern run-of-the-mill bathroom vanities. Modern antique bathroom vanities also offer the opportunity to reinvent your bathroom from top to bottom. Just imagine draping your bathroom in old-world beauty, incorporating rich, vivid colors, tapestries, and pictures that would be fit for a Victorian emperor (including Queen Victoria herself).

However, there are some purists who when they say they want “antique” they mean they want an “original”. It is possible to get a hold of a true antique bathroom vanity, but what you may get in originality, you’re lacking in functionality. True antique vanities are more of a novelty and often require complete restoration and updating to be functional within the home. That’s not to say that truly original vanities from our past don’t look great in bathrooms today. In fact, they can be exceptional conversation pieces and add 100% originality to your bathroom. The one difficulty with these vanities is in most cases, you’ll end up paying much more to purchase and then restore a true antique bathroom vanity then it would cost you to purchase a modern bathroom vanity fashioned after antique styles and designs.

So is it Better to be “Old” or “Old-School”?

The bottom line is whether you go true antique (old) or antique-styled (old-school), the choice is completely up to you. Bathroom vanity manufacturers are producing ornate and exquisite antique-styled vanities that look much like the styles of old. Of course their true age is more modern than antique, but when you compare the option of buying old and spending to make it new, you discover that it’s more practical to buy new and designed to look “antique”.

How to Design a Victorian Bathroom

A popular idea for many homeowners these days is to take on home improvement projects to make their homes a little nicer rather than relocating to a newer house. Many homeowners like to go with a theme for rooms when they are remodeling, such as a Victorian bathroom or a 1950’s kitchen. If you are thinking of going with that old fashioned clawfoot tub bathroom idea, here are a couple ideas to create a wash room that takes you back to another time.

1.  Get a new bathroom vanity that reflects the period. If you have a modern bathroom vanity with Victorian accents and decorations, it won’t really work. You need to complete the transformation with a bathroom vanity that has an antique style, like a raised white porcelain sink with a rich mahogany cabinet base. The bathroom vanity is one of 3 major bathroom fixtures that decide the décor of the room, so find an antique vanity that you love and match your toilet and bathtub with it to completely makeover your modern bathroom.

2.  Find a fitting footed bath tub. The first thing you want to do with any bathroom remodel is measure your space so you know what will fit. Once you know the vanity that will fit in your space, you can move onto the next important fixture, the bathtub. To make your Victorian bathroom authentic, you will want to find a beautiful footed bath tub to bathe in. Clawfoot tubs are a charming and beautiful part of any old-fashioned bathroom, and you will love the way it starts to bring your design idea to life.

3.  Get an old fashioned style toilet. Because of the demand, many manufacturers still produce Victorian style toilets, which are generally designed with a high tank and a pull chain with a decorative accent on the end. There are low tank Victorian toilets as well if that is more your taste, but no matter which one you choose, the old fashioned style toilet will give you the bathroom fixture design tri-fecta that really takes you back in time and transforms your modern bathroom into an old fashioned one, with a beautiful antique bathtub centerpiece.

Once you have the three matching major fixtures installed, you only need to worry about the details. You can paint or put up that flowery old fashioned wallpaper, and invest in a few accents that complete the Victorian look. Good luck!
