A home’s exterior makes or breaks the first impression when prospective buyers see your home initially. If you’re looking to add value to your home without spending a lot of money, consider enhancing its curb appeal with a new front door. A spruced-up entryway can add as much as $24,000 to a home’s perceived value. Your home competes for attention with the other homes in the neighborhood and even on your block. But you’ll never get an offer if potential buyers don’t make it through the front door. The good news is that you can give your home an inviting new look by simply upgrading your front entryway. It’s one of the fastest, easiest and least expensive home improvements you can make.
Whereas many doors are made of wood or steel, newer fiberglass materials and design options make the rich look of a wood door more affordable and easier to maintain. Fiberglass won’t rot, swell or peel like wood; requires minimal maintenance; provides excellent thermal protection; and offers unlimited possibilities for styles and finish options. .
Today’s manufacturers also offer a wide array of choices for your home’s entryway, from doors that complement your home’s architectural style to custom looks using decorative glass, sidelites, transoms and more. Here are some “IDEAS” for choosing a new entryway system for your home: .
Don’t ignore the Small Stuff
Remember that an entryway is an entire system of components, not just the door slab look for a complete door system designed to work together with high-quality, durable components. From door hardware to beautiful glass sidelites and transoms, an attractive, high-performance entryway can go a long way toward making your home more appealing and drawing potential buyers to at least look inside. .
One door or two?
If you have a single door, you can simply replace it with a new door in the same size. But if you add sidelites (stationary glass panels next to the door opening) you will enhance the beauty of the entryway and also bring more light inside the home to showcase what’s inside. If you currently have double doors, instead of simply replacing them, consider installing an extra-wide single door (3 feet by 6 inches) and use sidelites to fill in the opening. Or, for a truly grand look, expand to double doors and add decorative glass sidelites and a transom window above. This may be a little more work, but it will transform your home with a completely new look. .
Evaluate Your Current Entryway
Check the door opening to see what your home can accommodate structurally. Measure the height and width: most doors are 3 feet wide and 6 feet 8 inches tall. But some of the most popular doors are now 3 feet 6 inches wide and 8 feet tall, so you may need to enlarge your opening. In addition, consider adding columns on the outside of the home or crossheads which will not only add style and elegance, but increase the home’s value and appeal. .
Assess What Glass Meets Your Needs
Adding decorative glass to your entryway can greatly enhance the curb appeal of your home. For example, use decorative glass with wrought iron designs to add sophistication to a Rustic or Spanish-inspired entryway; choose oval-shaped glass with curved or angled geometric designs to enhance a Victorian home; or select glass with crossover designs to add personality to a Prairie-style home. .

We all know that bathrooms form an important part of any property. A bathroom is one of the most frequently used rooms in the house. It is also one of the rooms most visible to guests. It can show visitors how lavish the occupants of that house are and also creates a great impression to the outside world.
If you take a look at any property magazines today, you will see that some bathroom design ideas are unique, some are simple and some can be quite outrageous. Different people have different ways of designing their bathroom, no matter how beautiful or weird the outcome may be.
The basic design of a bathroom includes type, style and colour.
There are three basic types of bathroom:
-guest
-family, and
-the master bathroom.
When developing property, you dont always need to build all three. However, if space and budget dictates, you should definitely consider this in your project scope as it will greatly enhance the value of your property.
When it comes to bathroom style, the most frequently used styles are American, English, Southwestern, Victorian, and the Country look. The final decision of the property developer would be to choose one that matches his target market. Designing a bathroom in a style that does not suit your target market can become a very expensive mistake.
When deciding on the colour of your bathroom, 90% of the time, you should opt for lighter colours. A dark bathroom will not appeal to many people so should be avoided wherever possible.
One very popular option is to go for the natural look, for example a bathroom containing good looking plants, rocks, and falling water. Again, these options would appeal more to a more affluent market and may not appear in a smaller 2 bedroom Victorian terrace.
Other natural bathroom ideas are:
-Natural lighting.
Some people have skylights installed in their bathrooms. This brings the feeling of a natural relaxing environment.
Halogen lights look much better than bulbs and fluorescent lights and should also be considered.
-Natural accessories:
These include objects made up of wood or Bamboo. One important aspect of these accessories is that they are durable and dont break easily.
You could also install a plant shelf or greenhouse window in the bathtub area if space allows.
When designing a bathroom, you should consider the three primary sources of lighting: ceiling-level, ambient and task lighting. Talk lighting could appear around the mirror and throughout the room, for example near your taps, doorknobs, towel bars and toilet paper holder.
If necessary, your bathroom design should also consider using larger tiles to create a sense of space, or rectified porcelain tiles. The rectified porcelain tiles have narrower grout lines making them more pleasing to the eye.
You could also change the door style of the bathroom by using sliding doors especially when the property you are developing is small. For larger bathrooms, you could add a glass sliding door to divide the bathing area and toilet area. The options are limitless.
By planning your bathroom design carefully, you should be able to work with your project manager to create a design that works not just for the property but also for your potential market and most importantly your budget!

I’m not going to actually do this, but can you still have gas lamps in Victorian houses, as long as the gas escapes through the ceiling roses/vents?
@Ms T to Thee, where would all the burnt gas fumes go, then?

Everything from door knockers, couches, cabinets, towels, couches, pillows, and other home furnishings. It doesn’t necessarilly have to have skulls and bats on it. But I love goth/victorian design and beauty and would love to furnish my home that way. Even some cool punk and rockabilly type stuff. Thanks!
I have a grand 2 story victorian home with two wrap around porches. It has two balconies and and 7 fireplaces. It was built around 1890 just to give you an idea of what it is. I need some really unique and inexpensive ideas on how to decorate it inside and out. Oh and I live in the south so not alot of snow. They shut down the whole town for an inch. LOL Anyway thanks for any help.
