The Ghost And Mr. Chicken Original 1966 Score – Vic Mizzy – Part 1 of 3
Category: All Things Victorian
Part 1 of 3 parts of the original and rare score from “The Ghost & Mr. Chicken”, a 1966 Univeral release. The film in its own right is a legend, thanks to a leading part by Don Knotts whose timid nature is put to the challenge as he spends the night in an old Victorian style mansion which was the location of a murder twenty years earlier. However, this performance would hav eonly been half of what it is if it had not been for the amazing music if Vic Mizzy. Mizzy’s score turns an otherwise comical film into something much more chilling, and has been a favirote of viewers for years. These recordings are cued just as they were presented in the film, and are from Mr. Mizzy’s personal preservation tape. Percepto Records, now out of business, took his mono preservation tape and added a slight rechanneling effect to it, to make it fit for CD. As Percepto Records is now out of business, finding this CD is very difficult, and since I bought it around the time it was released in 2005, I am lucky enough to have it, and am glad to share it with fans of the film and Mr. Mizzy’s composing. Sadly, Vic Mizzy passed away about a year ago at the age of 93, and left behind a legacy of some of the greatest film and television scores of all time, this being one of his best! I hope you enjoy it! Listed Below Are The Titles From The Disc In This Video – 1. Gaseous Globe [music over the Universal intro screen of the earth rotating] 2. Main Title 3. Luther Has a Scoop 4. Part 1 of 2. Dancing to Techno Music. A shortfilm by Christopher Bennie (2004). Synopsis: Mothership and SEN present a figure dancing in a room. The camera angle is static and there are no cuts or edits. The figure’s movements are rapid abd somewhat ungraceful, contrasting strongly to the backdrop resembling a family living room adorned with a Victorian style portrait and an ensemble of china figurines. When the viewer first encounters the work, presented as a large video projection, the figure’s movements appear contorted, absurd even. However the soundtrack reveals the fact that these movements are a result of a high velocity electronic music soundtrack, which includes classics from the Superstition Recordings catalogue as featured on the CD album “Decade The Mix” (www.conzoom.com
