Why should you purchase cast aluminium garden furniture?

Everyone dreams of having the perfect patio and garden and if you invest all that time and effort into creating your perfect outdoor oasis then also you definitely need to have the best patio furniture. If you want to relax and enjoy your garden during the summer months, then you need patio garden furniture that not only looks good, but also offers you great comfort. Several types of patio furniture, made up from many different materials are available on the market nowadays, that range from the teak patio furniture to the cheap plastic patio furniture. Patio furniture is also available with many other materials like cane, wicker, poly-wood, cast iron and of course cast aluminum.

The most desired feature of patio furniture is durability and its resistance ability for all weather conditions. When you make a comparison on behalf of these features then you will find that cast aluminum patio furniture stands first among all the different types of patio furniture. It is rust-proof and does not require any cover even during the rain, snow or the storms. Also if you are looking at garden furniture from a future maintenance perspective, then you’ll also find that cast aluminum furniture wins hands down. It is the best as maintenance and the need for repairing are very low and extremely easy. Cast aluminum does not corrode like cast iron patio furniture and does not require as much maintenance as say timber. Cast aluminum patio furniture is also very light weight compared to cast iron or timber and that makes it easy for you to keep it anywhere in your garden, pick it up and move around.

When you start comparing the price of cast aluminium garden furniture with several other types of furniture you will find that prices are far better when you take into account the overriding features and benefits. Cast aluminum furniture is beautiful to look at, excellent value for money, and virtually maintenance free. You can simply clean it with warm soapy water and any marks/stone chips on the feet can be easily touched up… Just see our How to Repair Paint Chips on Aluminium Garden Furniture video if you don’t believe me.

Yes we are a little biased, but you can argue with the facts and cast aluminum patio furniture is the best choice among all types of garden furniture. When people are choosing furniture for outdoor use, they may already be convinced that cast aluminum patio furniture is the best solution. And while it is true that aluminum resists corrosion better than most other metals, you need to ensure that the quality of the alloy used to make cast aluminum patio furniture is of the highest quality. To be honest it is the main factor in determining how long it will last, not just the generic name cast aluminum. There is cheap aluminum garden chairs on the market where the aluminum tubing is not much thicker than a can of pop.

Even so-called rust proof cast aluminum patio furniture can become corroded and pitted if a little TLC is not taken. However, it will resist the urge to corrode far better than other ferrous metals such as cast iron, but buying aluminum patio furniture and believing that it will last forever is simply folly. Simple cleanliness is best corrosive protection you can get and a wipe down with warm soapy water every now an then will help prolong your furniture.

Saying all that, even a painted wrought iron can have a prolonged life if properly cared for. The problem with cast iron is that to avoid rust to the level of cast aluminium, you need to apply new paint over any scratches immediately. Aluminium patio furniture can take the pressure of abuse. Keeping it clean of corrosive abrasions will extend its life. Plus, many of today’s modern aluminum patio furniture sets (such as those sold by Lazy Susan) are much heavier than those produced in the past, making them able to last much longer and they’re less likely to get blown away in a strong wind, but at the same time are still light enough to pick up and move.

Aluminum is fast becoming the most popular metal used in outdoor furniture and for many reasons. It is durable, versatile, and requires very little care on the part of the owner. It is commonly known that aluminum generally does not rust. However, there is a unique science behind this carefree material… When exposed to air, aluminum will develop a microscopic layer of oxide on its exterior. This oxide layer acts as a barrier which protects the metal from the elements and prevent corrosion. This quality is the most appealing characteristic when it comes to choosing a material for making outdoor garden furniture. It will weather any climate and any amount of precipitation. Aluminum furniture is a dependable option for outdoor living.

There are three different types of aluminum construction for outdoor furniture: Wrought Aluminum, Tubular Aluminum and Cast Aluminum. Wrought Aluminum furniture is usually used to create furniture Victorian in style that similar to styles also found in most wrought iron outdoor pieces. Tubular aluminum techniques in furniture is probably most common as it is the lightest and easiest to shape and form. Cast Aluminum outdoor furniture is made using a process, called casting, where molten aluminum is poured into a mold. This process produces the most pure and resilient form of aluminum. Cast Aluminum outdoor furniture is cast in pieces and then welded together, which seals out water and the elements. As cast aluminum is solid, the resulting product is heavier than wrought and tubular aluminum furniture.

Aluminum furniture does not need to be covered or protected they way that wood furniture may need to be. However, some aluminum furniture comes with a powder-coating. This gives the aluminum colour and helps to reduce the aluminum being scratched and dented. This coating often has great visual appeal as well as giving added strength to the oxide layer, however, it does require a little extra care to maintain the original appearance. The coating, while protective and durable, can be scratched by a reckless owner or be eroded by harsh, salty environments. It is important to consider this possibility to maintain reasonable expectations of your cast aluminum furniture.

You need to know that aluminum will not rust and this is what makes it perfect for outdoor furniture. But, aluminum will get affected by pollution in the air and water and its surface can discolor or become rough. Though aluminum does not rust it does oxidize which can result in discoloration, but will not affect the structural reliability of the metal. Just follow Lazy Susan’s helpful hints for the care of aluminum outdoor patio furniture and it will last for many years and keep that good as new appearance:

If you notice that there is slight discoloration on you aluminum furniture, then it should be washed with mild soap and warm water. It helps to add a gentle natural acid like lime or lemon juice or a little vinegar. Do not use any ammonia, TSP or Soda based cleaning solutions and it is always best to do this cleaning after the change of seasons.
If the aluminum has become pitted or is rough to the touch, it can be polished. Smooth the surface with steel wool and soap as a cleanser and lubricant. Remember to remove all traces and residue of the steel wool from the surface of your aluminum outdoor furniture or else it can rust and stain the surface of the furniture

www.karenbrown.com The Union Street Inn, in the city of San Francisco Union Street is always a favorite place to dine, shop, and play; and the several blocks stretching out at the foot of exclusive Pacific Heights offer charming restaurants and pretty boutiques in quaint Victorian houses. Right in the heart of this attractive area, in a pretty, light-yellow Victorian house with green trim, is the Union Street Inn. Steps on the left side of the building lead up to the front door, which opens into a small reception foyer. To the left is an old-fashioned sitting room all kitted out in period furniture. Doors from the parlor lead out to the most special feature of the inn—an exceptionally attractive, English-style garden where a brick path meanders through a medley of shrubs, flowers, and shade trees. At the end of the garden, behind a white picket fence, is an adorable cottage converted into a guest suite (The Carriage House). In the house itself are five more guestrooms, each individually decorated in a traditional style. We liked the quiet location of the English Garden Room, with its little deck overlooking the garden and enjoyed the spaciousness of the New Yorker which is large enough to accommodate both a queen and sofa bed and has a large bay window overlooking the activity of Union Street. Wine and hors d’oevres are set out for guests each afternoon, and in the morning a full breakfast is served either on the deck, in the parlor or in your room. Travel your Dreams

What color should I paint my antique-pretty bedroom?

Question by AbbyBabby95: What color should I paint my antique-pretty bedroom?
My family is building a house, and we are moving in soon. I’m 15 years old and I am getting the HUGE bonus room upstairs :) I’m so excited!

Anyways, I have decided that I want my room to have a antique, pretty, feminine, light style. I don’t want anything that looks too Victorian or royal, just pretty and not too expensive looking. I want my bedding to be a very light pink such as in this picture:

http://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.countryliving.com/cm/countryliving/images/n4/Cynthia-Steffe-Home-Guesthouse-de.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.countryliving.com/homes/house-tours/catskill-mountain-house-0510&usg=__nTce30lyw-iwD776Bl7dlu8oBnc=&h=460&w=360&sz=53&hl=en&start=28&sig2=1MpgHIuKQ9ER3z9jkqUwfw&zoom=1&tbnid=d8dpi-2D8wIBzM:&tbnh=161&tbnw=126&ei=PBVKTbUrgqvwBvv1uMAO&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dvintage%2Bbedroom%2Bpink%26um%3D1%26hl%3Den%26rlz%3D1C1RNCI_enUS348US348%26biw%3D1024%26bih%3D653%26tbs%3Disch:10%2C878&um=1&itbs=1&iact=hc&vpx=302&vpy=291&dur=9002&hovh=254&hovw=199&tx=75&ty=210&oei=8BRKTZ20McKblgecj8HgDw&esq=3&page=3&ndsp=14&ved=1t:429,r:1,s:28&biw=1024&bih=653

I want it to look mature, but light and carefree at the same time. So no colors that are bright or pastel.
I have actually got a lot of my main furniture pieces (my bed, nightstand, vanity, and dresser) and they are all a dark wood, so I know I want my walls to be light. I’m just not sure what color.

I was thinking either an ivory-white, a VERY light dusty pink, or a very light tan color. What do you guys think? And any other suggestions besides the color would also be helpful!

ALSO: Our whole house is kind of going to have that old-country home look to it, and there is a little sitting/computer area right outside my room that will be the whole families. What could I do there to still have my style in it but also not be to girly since I do have guys in my family as well?

Best answer:

Answer by Peachy1
I like the bedding set! It’s very feminine without being in-your-face pink – very cool!

As for the wall color, I think that a sandy beige/tan on the walls with a creamy white for the baseboards and trim would be an excellent combination and would go well with the bedding you have chosen. You could inject an accent color through the use of curtains, throw pillows, maybe a throw type blanket and an area rug or two.

Regarding the sitting room/computer nook, you could continue the same wall color & trim paint combo to unify the space. But as for decorating, if the space belongs to the whole family, I think that the whole family should have a say in how it is put together.

If you aren’t 100% sure of the color/color scheme, check out the Sherwin Williams web site: There are a lot of color applications that should prove to be helpful.

What style of vintage furniture should I look for?

Question by Dianne S: What style of vintage furniture should I look for?
I’m considering furnishing my family room with antique or vintage furniture rather than new. My house is 130 years old and its a victorian farm house. It has a little country/farm house feel and a little bit of victorian formality.

I want furniture that reflects the style of the house, but I want it to be functional and comfortable too. I can’t figure out what decades or eras to look for when seeking out furniture. Victorian is just uncomfortable. So when did they start to manufacture comfortable furniture that still has formal and traditional styling, before things became modern?

Best answer:

Answer by Ant Boni
Fabrics, colors and textures of the Victorian era will allow you the flexibility you want in more updated furnishings.

Find the sofa that is comfortable and suits your lifestyle. Get it in a deep maroon velvety fabric A rich brocade pink upholstery wing-back chair ( or a pair) will provided comfort and the the romantic, feminine look.

Beaded lamps displayed on taller end tables, too. Doilies on everything!

What You Should Know When Buying Antique Jewelry

Antique jewelry is specified in the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) guidelines as jewelry that is more than 100 years old.

Buying antique jewelry has become quite popular in recent years and thanks to the Internet, online antique jewelry has made these rare and collectible period pieces even more accessible.

Period Jewelry

Whether you are an avid antique jewelry collector or a one-time private buyer, here is a quick review to help you understand and identify antique jewelry periods. The following, listed in chronological order, are some of the more notable periods that identify old antique jewelry.

Georgian Antique Jewelry feature rare and handmade items with precious stones and dates from 1714 to 1837, the era when Great Britain was ruled by kings like King George the I, II, III and IV.

Victorian Antique Jewelry designs include two periods. Early Victorian antique jewelry were inspired by nature while later Victorian jewelry pieces, often referred to as “mourning” jewelry, were heavier, darker and more solemn. Victorian antique jewelry dates back during the British reign of Queen Victoria from about 1837 until her death in 1901.

Art Nouveau Antique Jewelry feature floral and butterfly designs and date from about 1890 to 1905 when the “new art” influenced everything from art and architecture to fine jewelry design.

Edwardian Antique Jewelry designs featured precious stones and elaborate designs, and dates from 1901 to 1910 when King Edward VII reigned over England.

Art Deco Antique Jewelry feature bright geometric designs and include elaborate necklaces and bracelets. The art deco antique jewelry era dates from about 1910 to 1935 and most notably during the period between World War I and World War II.

Estate & Vintage Verses Antique Jewelry

Fine antique jewelry exudes a timeless beauty. From power and prestige to heartfelt romantic styles, the individual and unique designs of old antique jewelry are what really set them apart.

While all antique jewelry can technically be classified as vintage or estate jewelry, not all estate jewelry or vintage jewelry is antique. Estate simply means items that were previously owned and vintage is an all-encompassing term that includes all eras up to 1960.

While some fine antique jewelry pieces can be quite rare, like those from the Georgian era, surprisingly, there are plenty of unique Antique Jewelry items to be found online, at very reasonable prices.

One can find everything from one-of-a-kind necklaces and bracelets to hair pins, lace pins, brooches, rings, engagement rings and earrings.

Diamond Antique Jewelry

Diamond antique jewelry is among the most sought after fine antique jewelry.

Old diamond cuts, especially those that pre-date 1900 like the old mine cut or rose cut diamond, are very distinct from modern diamonds and have higher crowns, deeper pavilions, smaller tables and thicker girdles than modern cut diamonds.

The cutting methods used to cut stones for most old antique jewelry were not as refined as they are today so antique jewelry designers emphasized the carat weight.

Unfortunately, a practice that has become more common in recent years is to take the old cut precious stones from certain antique jewelry pieces and re-cut them according to modern cutting methods. This has resulted in driving up the demand for antique diamond jewelry.

The depth of beauty, the sheer elegance etched in stylish lines and clever usage of platinum, gold and silver combined with precious stone settings, sets old antique jewelry apart and transports the wearer to sumptuous eras of our illustrious past.

Antique Jewelry Verses Antique Style or Replica

When Buying Antique Jewelry one has to know the difference between ‘antique jewelry’, ‘antique style jewelry’, ‘antique reproductions’ and ‘antique replicas’.

Antique jewelry is the name used for authentic period pieces as discussed earlier.

Antique Style Jewelry refers to jewelry items manufactured anew in the style of historic periods.

Antique Reproduction Jewelry refers to jewelry items which are perfect copies of original antique jewelry pieces.

Antique Replicas are basically costume jewelry and does not belong to the fine jewelry category.

How should I redecorate my bedroom?

- PINK + WOOD, young girl classic style?

http://www.countryliving.com/cm/countryliving/images/Pink-bedroom-GTL0505-de.jpg

I’m a 21 year old college student. My bedroom must have “young woman” written on it, it must be feminine and calm and have a romantic and classic touch. I will also add some Cinema motifs, because that’s my big passion. I’ll also put add some antiques, like candleholders, a iron bed, a iron victorian mirror, a pink victorian table lamp….

Well, what do you think?

Was I taken advanatge of? How should I handle it?

My mom passed away a few months ago. A co-worker offered to help me cleaning out and sorting stuff from the 10-room Victorian house I inherited which is filled with antiques, glassware, china and many other valuable collectibles. The first few times she came it was okay, then she started putting the “guilt trip” on me by pointing out that she had traveled a long way and put a lot of work equity into helping me, but I could make it up to her by giving her this and that from the house. I was shocked – I hadn’t expected that she would present me with a “bill” for her help, but I gave her what she wanted. She had also taken some of the glassware and china to wash since she has a washing machine, but I feel she hasn’t returned it all. I’m also missing other things from the house. Of course, I can’t prove a thing. Now she has stopped coming claiming that she feels that I am now in the “Area of diminishing returns.” Was I taken? What can I do?

What should I get my father for Christmas?

I have 4 people to give gifts to in my family.

I have an idea for everyone except my father.

My budget really doesn’t go past $70.

My mother has an obsession with the 1800s and victorian era. So, I was going to buy her maybe a book or movie on the civil war (or more likely The Assassination of Jesse James), or perhaps something neat from the antique store I live near. A lot of things there is surprisingly cheap, so I might give it a look.

For my sister, the pair of gloves that she wants, and maybe something else little.
My other sister…I don’t know. But she’s about 3, so I’m sure I’ll find something that will interest her.

^_^

My father on the other hand…

I’m not sure.

He’s a busy sort of person, so I can’t really get him something time consuming.

He’s always curious about learning Italian…but that would be time consuming.
He has a small interest in sports, particularly baseball, but he’s no fanatic.
A video game might be a good idea. He likes games like Halo and Call of Duty, though we already have those, and he’s mentioned none since those were purchased. I just have no idea which one he’d want.
He doesn’t read anything, really, other than his computer software books. Though, I must say that’s not something he enjoys.
He really likes trains, though already has several models.

I just don’t know what to get him.

If everything else I have to give is already bought…then…
I’d say I would have approximately 15-20 dollars to spend on him.

Any ideas?

How should I decorate my master bedroom?

I have an Ashley North Shore sleigh bed and nightstands and am looking for decorating ideas. My husband and I both like antique type looks. I’m thinking about something Victorian or Renaissance for the theme, but am not sure exactly what colors, bedding, window treatments, etc would go well with these ideas. I need to end up with something that isn’t overly feminine but still authentic to the time periods. The link to see the furniture is here. http://www.furniturexo.com/North-Shore-Sleigh-Bed-Bedroom-Set-p-36591.html and we will be getting the dresser and armoire sometime in the not-too-distant future. Thanks to all you creative home decorator types in advance! :)

Which one should i get?

What color should I paint/decorate my bedroom?

Okay, so I have decided that it is time to totally redo my room. I’m getting a new mattress and everything. The only thing that I am not changing is some of the furniture. Here I realize my problem – I inherited my great grandmothers furniture when she passed away. When she got it it was about 100 years old, so it’s almost 200 years old now, so I really would love to keep it in my room, but it forces me to keep my room decoration almost victorian. I am trying to decide what color to paint my room and decorate with…the furniture is sort of an antique white, (http://www.jwminteriors.com/images/Victorian-roomshot.jpg – they are the color of this furniture). Any suggestions? thanks!! :)
hmm…the link didn’t work. :( lemme try again…

http://www.jwminteriors.com/images/Victorian-roomshot.jpg

just copy and paste, i guess… :P

thanks for all the answers i got so far…at this point i love the powder blue, sort of a light green and a light pink. i may try to incorporate some cocoa-y brown, if i can find the accessories. :) haha.
